Parish of St. Matthew Residency Program

The St. Matthew’s Residency Program is a one-year program for young adults discerning a spiritual call to work with children and youth. Designed as an apprenticeship in youth ministry, the program offers practical, hands-on experience working with children and youth in parish, school, and camp settings. The program aims to equip the next generation of Youth Ministers, Religious Educators, Camp Directors, and Clergy with the skills and experience necessary to engage in the development of children and youth of the 21st Century.

First and foremost, residents will support the children and youth programs of the parish, including Sunday morning children’s activities, planning of youth retreats, and annual Confirmation classes. The Residency will also include education in marketing and communications, pastoral care, program design, and parish administration.

In partnership with St. Matthew’s Parish School, Residents will assist with planning and executing weekly Chapel Services for elementary and middle school students, aid in facilitating community service opportunities, and function as a student teacher under the leadership of St. Matthew’s School Chaplain.

Residents will also receive an immersive experience with St. Matthew’s Day Camp, the parish’s summer camp program, and Troop 223, one of the country’s most robust and decorated Scout Troops, learning valuable skills in camp administration, leadership development, outdoor education, volunteer coordination, and organizational culture.

Each Resident cohort will live in a newly constructed, three-bedroom house on the St. Matthew’s campus and receive a substantial stipend and health insurance.

The Resident position is full-time, requiring a one-year commitment, with the option to apply for a second year.

Residency will last from the beginning of August through the end of July.
